Post 16 SEN Teaching Assistant


Location: Leeds
Contract: Temporary to permanent (term-time only) | Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30-15:30
Salary: £90-£95/day (depending on experience)

About the Role
NextGen Teachers is partnering with specialist SEN schools in Leeds supporting post-16 learners with EHCPs. Learners follow a pathway that develops independence, combining academic, vocational, and community-based experiences.

As a Learning and Life Skills Support Assistant, you will help learners build practical skills, confidence, and independence through structured teaching, life skills sessions, and real-world experiences in the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support post-16 learners with complex SEN needs, including ADHD, autism, and other learning difficulties

  • Deliver semi-formal teaching and life skills, including 'Maths for Life' and practical independence tasks

  • Implement EHCP targets and strategies to develop communication, social, and emotional skills

  • Support learners in community-based activities and offsite experiences

  • Provide sensory support where required and assist with emotional regulation and positive behaviour management

  • Work as part of a high-support, team-teaching environment using visuals, project-based learning, or Lego Therapy

Requirements

  • Experience supporting learners with complex SEN needs, including personal care

  • Patience, empathy, and positive behaviour management skills

  • Willingness to support offsite/community-based activities

  • Understanding of safeguarding and accurate record-keeping

  • Team Teach trained (or willingness to complete)

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)

  • Minimum Grade C/4 in GCSE English, Maths, and Science
