SEND Teaching Assistant - Specialist School

Location: Crawley
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:45pm (term time only)
Contract: Full time, Term Time Only - Ongoing supply work

NextGen Teachers are delighted to be supporting a number of local SEND primary schools with classroom support staff.

We would love to hear from candidates who have education or comparable experience and are looking to make a positive difference in the lives of children with additional needs, including autism, ADHD, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and behavioural challenges.

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will provide personalised support to help children overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence, and thrive both academically and socially. You will be part of a caring, supportive team committed to creating engaging, inclusive, and memorable learning experiences for every child.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a range of SEN needs.
  • Adapt learning approaches to support children with ASC, ADHD, MLD, global developmental delay, speech and language difficulties, and SEMH.
  • Assist class teachers in planning and delivering engaging, tailored lessons.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff and external agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for pupils.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with complex SEN needs.
  • A genuine passion for helping children reach their potential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding and related procedures.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science.
  • Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) - desirable.
