NextGen Teachrs are seeking a candidate to join a high-performing and expanding 11-18 grammar school in Kirklees, with a large and flourishing sixth form and exceptionally motivated students. They are now seeking to appoint an outstanding Subject Leader of Chemistry to lead a successful and well-established department. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and inspirational teacher to shape the strategic direction of Chemistry across Key Stages 3-5, lead a team of specialist staff, and further strengthen outcomes in a subject that plays a central role in the school's continued academic success.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Chemistry department, driving excellence in teaching and learning
- Lead, manage and develop departmental staff, fostering collaboration, high standards and professional growth
- Be accountable for student progress and attainment across all key stages, including GCSE and A Level
- Monitor, evaluate and improve the quality of teaching, learning and assessment within the department
- Oversee curriculum planning, schemes of work and assessment practices to ensure breadth, depth and progression
- Analyse performance data to inform intervention strategies and secure strong outcomes for all learners
- Manage departmental resources, accommodation and allocated budget effectively
- Promote high standards of behaviour, engagement and academic aspiration
- Contribute to whole-school leadership as a middle leader and support wider school initiatives
- Champion enrichment opportunities and extra-curricular provision in Chemistry
- Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements and promote a strong culture of safeguarding
The perfect candidate will have:
- A degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline and a recognised teaching qualification (QTS)
- A proven track record of outstanding classroom practice across Key Stages 3-5
- Experience of leading, motivating and developing colleagues
- Strong knowledge of the 11-18 curriculum, assessment practices and strategies to raise attainment
- The ability to analyse performance data and implement effective improvement strategies
- A clear educational vision and the drive to achieve excellence
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships
- High expectations of themselves and their students
- The confidence and presence to inspire highly able learners
- A commitment to continuous professional development
