Teaching Assistant
SEND Teaching Assistant - Primary SEN School (Temp to Perm)
Location: Horsham
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:45pm (term time only)
Contract: 12-week temporary placement with the opportunity to become permanent
A welcoming primary SEN school in Horsham is looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is a 12-week temporary-to-permanent opportunity, offering the chance to secure a long-term position following a successful placement.
This role is based within a specialist primary setting, supporting children aged 4-11 with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Pupils may present with Autism, communication needs, learning difficulties, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school provides small class sizes and a highly supportive staff team to ensure every child receives personalised attention and care.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide in-class support to pupils within a structured primary environment
- Deliver 1:1 support tailored to individual learning and emotional needs
- Assist with small group interventions to reinforce key skills
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
- Work closely with the class teacher to adapt activities and learning resources
- Contribute to a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom atmosphere

- Has experience working with primary-aged children, ideally within SEND
- Demonstrates patience, resilience, and a calm approach
- Understands the importance of routine and structure for young learners
- Communicates effectively and works well as part of a team
- Is committed to securing a permanent role after a successful temporary period
