Location: Barnsley
Salary: £22,000-£24,000
Contract: Full-Time | Term-Time Only
Start Date: ASAP (subject to notice period)
NextGen Teachers are recruiting a committed Behaviour Support Worker to join a warm, inclusive school in Barnsley. This permanent role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting pupils with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and creating a safe, predictable environment where they can learn and grow.
You will work closely with a small, consistent group of learners, providing structure, stability and calm throughout the school day. Your presence will play a key role in helping pupils regulate, build trust, and re-engage positively with learning.
Key Responsibilities
Provide daily behaviour and learning support to pupils with complex SEMH needs
Offer calm, structured support during lessons, transitions and unstructured periods
Use effective de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies
Build strong, trusting relationships as a reliable and consistent adult
Promote a safe, nurturing and predictable environment
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external professionals
What We're Looking For
Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs (school, care, PRU, alternative provision, youth work or similar)
Understanding of behaviour support, trauma-informed practice and de-escalation
Ability to motivate, engage and build rapport with pupils with a range of needs
Strong communication skills, resilience and emotional awareness
GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
Level 3 qualification (or willingness to work towards one)
Full UK driving licence and access to a car
