SEND / SEMH Teaching Assistant - Specialist School (Temp to Perm)
Location: Crawley
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:45pm (term time only)
Contract: 12-week temporary placement with permanent opportunity

A specialist SEN / SEMH school in Crawley is looking to appoint a committed Teaching Assistant to join their team on a 12-week temp-to-perm basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to secure a permanent position within a structured and supportive school environment following a successful initial placement.

The school supports both Primary and Secondary pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism, ADHD, and associated behavioural challenges. With small class sizes and strong staff-to-student ratios, the setting provides a focused and personalised approach to learning and emotional development.

The Role

• Provide classroom support across Primary and Secondary year groups
• Deliver tailored 1:1 assistance and small group interventions
• Support pupils with emotional regulation and consistent behaviour strategies
• Work closely with teaching staff to adapt lessons and learning materials
• Maintain a safe, calm, and structured learning environment
• Build positive relationships that promote engagement, resilience, and independence

The Ideal Candidate

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs
• Calm, patient, and confident when managing challenging behaviour
• Background in education, youth work, care, or other supportive settings
• A strong team player with effective communication skills
• Committed to securing a permanent role following the temporary period
