Location: Leeds
Contract: Temporary to permanent (term time only). Monday to Friday (8:30-3:30)
Start date: ASAP
Salary: £90-£95 per day (dependent on experience)

About the Role

NextGen Teachers are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a warm and supportive specialist primary provision in Leeds.


This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about helping young children with special educational needs to develop confidence, independence, and a love of learning.

The school supports pupils with a diverse range of needs, including autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, communication difficulties, and social, emotional, and/or learning needs. Learning is delivered through structured lessons, play-based activities, sensory experiences, and life-skills sessions designed to meet each child's developmental stage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with a wide range of special educational needs, promoting their academic, social, and emotional development
  • Deliver engaging, accessible, and age-appropriate learning experiences tailored to individual needs
  • Work collaboratively within a nurturing team with a strong staff-to-pupil ratio
  • Use a variety of communication methods and positive behaviour approaches suited to younger learners
  • Provide caring, consistent support to ensure each child's comfort, wellbeing, and sense of safety
  • Assist pupils throughout the day with learning, transitions, play activities, and personal care (where required)
  • Encourage independence, social interaction, and emotional regulation

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children who have complex SEN needs
  • Patience, empathy, and strong positive behaviour management skills
  • Willingness to support off-site trips and enrichment activities
  • A genuine passion for helping young children thrive and achieve their potential
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and accurate record-keeping
  • Team Teach trained (or willingness to complete training)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Minimum Grade C/4 in GCSE English, Maths, and Science
