Year 1 Teaching Assistant - Full Time (Term Time Only) - Wakefield - Start ASAP (March 2026)

NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Wakefield. This is a full-time, term-time-only position, starting ASAP in March 2026, with the opportunity to work on a long-term contract.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate Teaching Assistant who enjoys working with young learners in Year 1 and supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Candidates applying for this role MUST have recent experience working in Key stage 1 in a Primary school and have good knowledge and experience with Phonics.

Role Responsibilities

• Supporting the Year 1 class teacher with daily classroom activities and learning.

• Working 1:1 and in small groups with pupils who require additional support.

• Assisting children with SEN, helping them access learning and remain engaged.

• Supporting phonics, early literacy, and numeracy activities.

• Helping to create a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.

• Assisting with classroom organisation, resources, and behaviour support.

Requirements

• Experience working in a primary school setting, ideally in Key Stage 1.

• Experience supporting children with SEN is highly desirable.

• A passion for working with young children and supporting their development.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

• A valid enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

• Salary: Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience)
