Graduate Teaching Assistant - SEN Support (Mainstream School)

Location: Leeds
Contract: Temporary to Permanent, Term Time Only, Monday-Friday (8:30am-3:30pm)
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £90 - £95 per day (depending on experience)

NextGen Teachers are recruiting a Graduate Teaching Assistant for a mainstream school in Leeds, supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) including Autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, and learning difficulties.

This role is ideal for graduates considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, or SEN support. You will work closely with teachers and the SENCO to support pupils both in the classroom and through small group interventions, helping them access learning and build confidence in a supportive school environment.

The Role

  • Support pupils with SEN within a mainstream classroom setting

  • Provide 1:1 support and small group interventions for pupils who require additional help

  • Assist with adapting learning materials to support different learning needs and abilities

  • Support pupils with focus, engagement, and emotional regulation

  • Help pupils develop confidence, independence, and social skills

  • Work closely with class teachers and the SENCO to implement support strategies

Requirements

  • Recent graduate (Education, Psychology, Child Development, or related degree desirable)

  • Passion for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs

  • Experience working with children (school, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or voluntary work) is desirable

  • Patient, enthusiastic, and proactive approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

  • Good understanding of safeguarding
