NextGen Teachers are currently working with a SEN School based in Pontefract who are seeking to recruit a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team as soon as possible. This is a full-time position supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

This role is ideal for someone who is patient, caring, and passionate about helping children with Autism complex needs achieve their full potential in a safe and nurturing learning environment.

NextGen Teachers is an education recruitment agency specialising in SEN and SEMH. We work with community schools through to multi-academy trusts across West Yorkshire, the South East of England and London, connecting educators with meaningful teaching opportunities.
We recruit for SEN qualified teachers, teaching support staff, and both short-term and long-term supply roles across Primary, Secondary and SEN schools. Key Responsibilities in this role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism (ASD).

  • Assist the class teacher in delivering individualised learning activities tailored to each pupil's needs.

  • Support pupils with personal care, mobility, and sensory activities where required.

  • Help create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment.

  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to support pupils' development and wellbeing.

  • Encourage pupils' communication, engagement, and independence throughout the school day.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly ASD which is essential.

  • A patient, empathetic, and positive attitude.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • The ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.

  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with complex learning needs.
