Teaching Assistant - Full Time (Term Time Only) - Special Needs School, Leeds - Start ASAP (March 2026)

NextGen Teachers are looking for a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join a special needs school in Leeds, supporting pupils with complex and high-level needs across the primary and secondary age ranges. This is a full-time, term-time-only role, starting ASAP in March 2026, with the opportunity for a long-term placement.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children and young people with special educational needs and complex needs, including those requiring additional support for communication, behaviour, and daily learning activities.

Candidates applying for this role MUST be available full-time and have previous experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and be comfortable with personal care.

Role Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils across primary and secondary age ranges with complex and high-level needs.

  • Working 1:1 and in small groups to support learning, communication, and social development.

  • Assisting pupils with SEN, complex learning needs, and behavioural challenges.

  • Implementing individual learning plans and behaviour strategies under the guidance of teachers and SEN specialists.

  • Supporting pupils with daily routines, personal care, and engagement in classroom activities.

  • Helping to create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a special needs or SEN school.

  • Experience supporting pupils with complex needs across a wide age range (primary and secondary).

  • Patience, adaptability, and a caring, nurturing approach.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
