Location: Wakefield
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only (Temporary to Permanent)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £92.60 minimum per day

NextGen Teachers are proud to be supporting a warm, inclusive, and welcoming primary school in the Wakefield area, seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team.

The role involves working closely with a pupil who requires tailored support, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and build confidence both academically and socially.

The Role

  • Provide dedicated support to a pupil with special educational needs
  • Support learning through personalised, adaptable approaches
  • Assist with emotional regulation, behaviour, and social development
  • Work closely with the class teacher to deliver engaging, tailored learning activities
  • Support small group interventions where required
  • Collaborate with SENCOs, external professionals, and parents to ensure consistent support

About the Pupils

You will be supporting children with a range of needs, including:

  • Autism (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
  • Speech and language difficulties
  • Moderate learning difficulties (MLD) and developmental delays

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEN (school-based or similar)
  • Is patient, empathetic, and resilient, with a genuine passion for supporting children
  • Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is proactive, adaptable, and able to build positive relationships
  • Has a solid understanding of safeguarding procedures

Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English, Maths, and Science
  • Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or equivalent) - desirable
