Are you a teacher who thrives on building relationships, restoring confidence, and changing futures?

We are recruiting a Skills Teacher to join a specialist SEMH school supporting Post-16 students within a therapeutic, relationship-led environment.

This is more than a teaching role - it's an opportunity to help young people who may have struggled in mainstream education re-engage with learning, regulate emotions, and prepare for adulthood with confidence.

You will primarily deliver English, Maths, and Functional Skills, adapting learning to meet the emotional, behavioural, and academic needs of students within Post-16, Pathways, and Hub provisions.

The Role

As a Skills Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver engaging Functional Skills, English, and Maths lessons
  • Differentiate learning to support SEMH and additional learning needs
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students
  • Support emotional regulation, resilience, and positive engagement
  • Create a calm, structured, and trauma-informed classroom environment
  • Contribute to EHCP outcomes and personalised learning plans
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral teams, therapists, and support staff
  • Help students develop independence, confidence, and life-ready skills

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds QTS/QTLS or has experience teaching Post-16 students (Required)
  • Can confidently teach English and Maths Functional Skills
  • Has experience supporting students with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs
  • Is calm, resilient, and emotionally intelligent
  • Understands trauma-informed and relationship-led practice
  • Believes in positive behaviour support and restorative approaches
  • Is passionate about helping young people succeed both academically and personally

Why Apply?

  • Salary package of £35,703 - £48,139 inclusive of SEN allowance
  • Permanent role within a highly supportive SEMH specialist school
  • Teachers' Pension Scheme
  • Up to 14 weeks holiday
  • Up to 18 INSET days with specialist SEMH and SEND training
  • Strong wellbeing culture and supportive leadership team
  • Excellent long-term progression and development opportunities
