Skills Teacher - SEMH Specialist School (Post-16)
Location: West Sussex
Salary: £35,703 - £48,139 per annum (inclusive of SEN allowance)
Contract: Full-Time | Permanent

We are recruiting a Skills Teacher to join a specialist SEMH school supporting Post-16 students within a therapeutic, relationship-led environment.
This is more than a teaching role - it's an opportunity to help young people who may have struggled in mainstream education re-engage with learning, regulate emotions, and prepare for adulthood with confidence.
You will primarily deliver English, Maths, and Functional Skills, adapting learning to meet the emotional, behavioural, and academic needs of students within Post-16, Pathways, and Hub provisions.
The Role
As a Skills Teacher, you will:
- Deliver engaging Functional Skills, English, and Maths lessons
- Differentiate learning to support SEMH and additional learning needs
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students
- Support emotional regulation, resilience, and positive engagement
- Create a calm, structured, and trauma-informed classroom environment
- Contribute to EHCP outcomes and personalised learning plans
- Work collaboratively with pastoral teams, therapists, and support staff
- Help students develop independence, confidence, and life-ready skills
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds QTS/QTLS or has experience teaching Post-16 students (Required)
- Can confidently teach English and Maths Functional Skills
- Has experience supporting students with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs
- Is calm, resilient, and emotionally intelligent
- Understands trauma-informed and relationship-led practice
- Believes in positive behaviour support and restorative approaches
- Is passionate about helping young people succeed both academically and personally
