Trainee SEN Teaching Assistant / Trainee Tutor (SEN / SEND / ASD) - East Grinstead
Location: East Grinstead, West Sussex
Salary: £24,303 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday | Term Time Only
Start Date: Immediate Start / September 2026

A specialist SEN school in East Grinstead is looking for a compassionate and motivated Trainee SEN Teaching Assistant / Trainee Tutor to join their dedicated team. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring Teaching Assistants, and candidates from care or support backgrounds to gain valuable hands-on experience supporting children and young people with additional needs.
Full training and ongoing support are provided, making this role ideal for anyone looking to build a long-term career within SEN / SEND education.
Please note that due to the location of the school that a UK drivers license is required.
The Role
As a Trainee SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with a range of additional needs including Autism (ASC / ASD), PMLD, SLD, sensory needs, and complex learning difficulties.
Working alongside experienced SEN professionals, you will help pupils access learning, develop communication skills, and build confidence in a safe and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
- Assisting with learning, communication, and classroom engagement
- Supporting pupils with Autism, SEND, and complex needs
- Encouraging independence, confidence, and social interaction
- Assisting with sensory activities and structured learning tasks
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
- Providing personal care and physical support where required

- Psychology, Sociology, or Criminology graduates
- Aspiring SEN Teaching Assistants or Learning Support Assistants
