SEN Teaching Assistant
KS1 SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Castleford
Contract: Full time, term time only. Temporary to Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Start Date: June
Salary: £92 - £95 (Depending on Experience)
We are looking for passionate SEMH/SEND practitioners to join a welcoming primary school as a SEN Teaching Assistant. This rewarding role involves providing 1:1 support for KS2 pupils with Autism, learning needs, and social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them feel supported, engaged, and confident within the classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support for KS2 pupils with Autism, learning needs, and SEMH needs within the classroom
- Support pupils to build confidence, engagement, and positive relationships with learning
- Use positive behaviour and de-escalation strategies to support emotional regulation
- Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
- Monitor and report on pupil progress, wellbeing, and engagement
- Support pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and other parts of the school day when needed
- Follow safeguarding procedures and attend relevant SEN/SEMH training opportunitie
What we're looking for:
- Experience supporting primary pupils with SEND, particularly Autism and SEMH needs
- Calm, patient, and caring approach when supporting children on a 1:1 basis
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Confident using positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies
- Able to work independently and as part of a supportive school team
- Professional, reliable, and committed to safeguarding and child welfare at all times
- Proactive, flexible, and resilient with a passion for supporting children with additional needs
