About the School

An independent specialist provision in Huddersfield offers a safe, nurturing and supportive environment for pupils aged 5-18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and associated additional needs including ASD, ADHD, attachment difficulties, Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and sensory processing needs.

The school is committed to providing a tailored and engaging education that enables every pupil to thrive both academically and emotionally. With small class sizes, excellent staff-to-pupil ratios and a strong pastoral approach, the provision creates a positive environment where pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Role Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the planning and delivery of high-quality lessons tailored to meet the individual needs of pupils with SEMH and additional needs
  • Supporting the class team in facilitating learning opportunities and promoting positive behaviours
  • Creating a safe, engaging and structured learning environment that encourages confidence, progress and achievement
  • Reporting on pupils' progress and concerns, and liaising with wider school staff to ensure pupils' needs are met effectively
  • Using effective behaviour management strategies and restorative approaches to support pupils with complex needs
  • Supervision of pupils during non-classroom time including extra-curricular activities and school trips
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and driving interaction, engagement and positive learning outcomes

Requirements

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Have a strong basic education to degree level
  • Previous successful teaching experience
  • Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH, SEN and/or challenging behaviour within an educational setting
  • Experience of behaviour management strategies and techniques
  • A calm, resilient and nurturing approach
  • Committed to professional development and willing to learn
  • Must be willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencing work
