SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Wakefield
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only (Temporary to Permanent)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Salary: From £92.60 per day

NextGen Teachers are proud to be supporting a welcoming and inclusive school in Wakefield that is looking to recruit a compassionate and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis.

This rewarding opportunity is ideal for someone with previous experience supporting children with additional needs within an educational setting. The role will involve working closely with pupils who may require additional academic, emotional or behavioural support, helping them to engage positively with learning and reach their full potential.

The Role:

  • Support pupils with SEN within the classroom environment
  • Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Adapt learning activities to support engagement and progress
  • Help support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Build strong, positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement tailored support strategies
  • Encourage pupil confidence, independence and social development
  • Support pupils throughout lessons, transitions and unstructured times where required

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Has previous experience supporting children with SEN within a school or similar setting
  • Is patient, caring and resilient
  • Has strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Can build positive relationships and act as a positive role model
  • Works well as part of a team
  • Is proactive, adaptable and committed to supporting pupils' wellbeing and progress
  • Has a genuine passion for inclusive education

Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths
  • Previous school-based SEN experience is desirable
  • Additional behaviour management or SEN training would be advantageous
