SEND Teaching Assistant (Immediate Start)

Location: Burgess Hill (well connected by public transport)
Hours: 8:45am - 4:00pm, Monday to Friday (term time only)
Contract: 12-week temp-to-perm contract following successful trial day

A specialist provision in Burgess Hill is seeking a committed SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team for an immediate start. This is a fantastic opportunity for a resilient and nurturing SEND Teaching Assistant who is passionate about providing high-quality support within a structured and supportive classroom environment.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work across Primary and Secondary age groups, supporting pupils within small classes. Students have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The role requires strong classroom support skills, emotional regulation strategies, and a consistent approach to behaviour support.

The Role - SEND Teaching Assistant

  • Offer consistent in-class support to pupils within small, well-supported classes
  • Provide tailored 1:1 assistance and lead focused small group sessions for students with additional needs
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help pupils manage their emotions throughout the school day
  • Work closely with the class teacher to support lesson delivery and adapt learning activities
  • Promote a calm, safe, and structured classroom setting
  • Develop strong, trusting relationships to boost self-esteem and independence

The Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant

  • Has knowledge of, or a genuine interest in, supporting children with SEND/SEMH
  • Brings experience from education, care settings, youth services, or other supportive roles
  • Remains calm under pressure and responds confidently to behavioural challenges
  • Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a wider classroom support team
  • Is dependable, motivated, and eager to start immediately
