NextGen Teachers are seeking a Speech & Language-focused Therapy Assistant / Practitioner to support young adults with Autism, communication needs, and complex profiles in a specialist college setting.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualified Speech and Language Therapist or experienced SALT Assistant
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN (preferred)
  • Knowledge of ASD, ADHD, speech and language delay, and complex needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient, compassionate, and adaptable
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

About the Role:

You will support students aged 16-25 who are developing independence through personalised education and therapy programmes.

This role has a strong focus on speech, language, and communication development, alongside sensory-based approaches (including salt therapy) to support regulation and engagement.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group speech & language-focused interventions
  • Support students with communication needs, Autism, and sensory processing differences
  • Implement and reinforce SALT strategies across education and residential settings
  • Work closely with Speech & Language Therapists, teachers, and care teams
  • Adapt communication methods (e.g. visuals, AAC, simplified language)
  • Supporting a student using AAC or visual communication tools
  • Delivering a structured speech & language intervention sessions
  • Running a calming sensory or salt therapy session to support regulation
  • Monitor progress and contribute to individual communication plans

Who This Role Would Suit

  • Qualified or newly qualified Speech & Language Therapists (SaLT)
  • SALT Assistants or Therapy Assistants
  • SEN Teaching Assistants with strong communication support experience
  • Psychology or Speech & Language graduates seeking experience
  • Support Workers with experience in communication needs / Autism
