Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only - Temp to Perm

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm

Age Group: 5-18 years

Start Date: ASAP

Salary: £28,000 - £39,000 (depending on experience)

NextGen Teachers are looking for a dedicated and experienced SEN Class Teacher to join a supportive and pupil‑focused education setting in Huddersfield. This is a full‑time, term‑time role working with learners aged 5-18 years who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will be joining a school that is part of a well‑established education community committed to providing tailored learning, promoting positive behaviour, and helping every pupil achieve their potential in a safe and nurturing environment. Your role will involve planning and delivering high‑quality lessons, supporting pupils' progress, and contributing to a culture that values inclusion, achievement, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality lessons within the national curriculum, tailored to meet the complex SEMH needs of all pupils
  • Support the class team in facilitating learning opportunities and promoting positive behaviour
  • Monitor, report, and communicate on pupils' progress, concerns, and achievements, liaising with other school staff to meet pupils' needs
  • Supervise pupils during non-classroom times, including extra-curricular activities and school trips
  • Build positive relationships with pupils to encourage engagement, interaction, and positive learning outcomes
  • Implement effective behaviour management techniques and support pupils' social and emotional development
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students

What we're looking for:

  • Qualified teacher (QTS or equivalent) with experience in SEN or SEMH settings
  • Strong understanding of child development, especially for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs
  • Ability to plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet individual pupil needs
  • Skilled in behaviour management and promoting positive learning environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with pupils, colleagues, and parents/carers
  • Compassionate, patient, and resilient, with the ability to build trust and positive relationships
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Enthusiasm, energy, and a flexible approach to meet the needs of a dynamic learning environment
