SEND Teaching Assistant (Complex Communication and Autism)

Salary: £19,860 minimum per year

We are recruiting for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support young people with special educational needs and disabilities in a rewarding and impactful role.
This is an opportunity to join a supportive and values-driven organisation where you will play a vital role in enabling pupils to access learning, develop independence, and achieve their full potential. You will work closely with teaching staff to deliver high-quality support both in and out of the classroom, including learning activities, behaviour support, and personal care where required.
This role goes beyond classroom support, incorporating therapeutic interventions and holistic care to ensure pupils' safety, wellbeing, and engagement in education. Full training is provided, making this an excellent opportunity for both experienced candidates and those looking to develop within SEND.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to pupils with SEND to enable access to learning
- Deliver pre-planned learning activities and adapt them to meet individual needs
- Support behaviour management and promote positive engagement
- Assist with personal care and health needs, including medical and therapeutic interventions (training provided)
- Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress and wellbeing
- Implement EHCPs, behaviour plans, and care plans
- Support pupils during lessons, break times, and off-site activities
- Work collaboratively with teachers, families, and external professionals
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and confidentiality policies
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND (desirable)
- A genuine interest in supporting pupils with complex needs
- A calm, patient, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Confidence in supporting behaviour and emotional regulation
- Willingness to support personal care and medical needs (with training)
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting wellbeing
- A proactive attitude towards training and professional development
