Are you an experienced HLTA or an ambitious Teaching Assistant ready to progress into a senior support role?

NextGen Teachers are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and inclusive primary school in the WF2 area of Wakefield, who are looking to appoint a Senior Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) or a suitably qualified Teaching Assistant with a degree (or equivalent qualification) who is confident supporting teaching and learning across the primary age range. The successful candidate will become a key member of the school's support team, working closely with teachers and senior leaders to help raise pupil achievement and provide high-quality classroom support.

The school is keen to meet suitable candidates over the coming weeks, with trial days available ahead of the new academic year.

The Role

As a Senior Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support teaching and learning across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 as required.

  • Deliver planned lessons and supervise whole classes in the absence of the class teacher.

  • Lead targeted interventions to support pupils' academic progress.

  • Provide high-quality support for pupils with a range of learning needs, including SEND.

  • Work collaboratively with class teachers to plan, prepare and adapt learning activities.

  • Support and mentor other Teaching Assistants where appropriate.

  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and senior leaders.

  • Promote positive behaviour and help create an inclusive, engaging learning environment.

  • Build strong relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues to support positive outcomes.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has substantial experience working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) within a primary school or holds a degree (or equivalent qualification) alongside relevant primary school experience.

  • Is confident leading whole-class learning and delivering pre-planned lessons.

  • Has excellent knowledge of the primary curriculum.

  • Can confidently support pupils across a range of abilities, including those with SEND.

  • Is organised, proactive and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Is passionate about helping children achieve their full potential.

  • Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.

What's on Offer?

  • Full-time, long-term role with the opportunity to secure a permanent contract.

  • Join a welcoming and supportive primary school with a strong leadership team.

  • A varied and rewarding role with opportunities to lead learning across the school.

  • Ongoing professional development and training.

  • Competitive rates of pay based on experience and qualifications.

  • Dedicated support from your consultant at NextGen Teachers throughout your placement.
