NextGen Teachers are delighted to be recruiting for a unique and rewarding opportunity within a specialist SEN school in Leeds. We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant & Travel Buddy to support a learner combining classroom-based support with practical travel training to help prepare them for adulthood.
This is an incredibly rewarding role where you will play a vital part in developing a young person's confidence, independence, and essential life skills.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant & Travel Buddy, you will:
Provide tailored one-to-one support throughout the school day, enabling the student to access learning and achieve their individual goals
Support the learner's emotional wellbeing, confidence, communication and independence within the classroom environment
Deliver practical travel training before and/or after school, teaching the student how to travel safely and confidently using public transport
Help the learner develop key life skills including journey planning, reading timetables, recognising landmarks, road safety and personal safety awareness
Gradually reduce support as the student's confidence and independence develop
Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, therapists and other professionals to ensure consistent support and positive outcomes
Maintain accurate records of progress and adapt support strategies to meet the learner's changing needs
The Ideal Candidate
We're looking for someone who is:
Passionate about supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Patient, caring and encouraging, with a calm and positive approach
Confident using public transport and happy to teach practical life skills
An excellent communicator who can build strong, trusting relationships
Flexible, proactive and committed to promoting independence
Experience working within SEN, education, care or support settings is desirable but not essential
A full UK driving licence would be advantageous, although not essential
