At NextGen Teachers, we're proud to connect passionate education professionals with rewarding opportunities across West Yorkshire. We are currently recruiting for a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant & Travel Trainer to support Key Stage 5 (KS5) learners from September 2026.

This unique and rewarding role combines in-school support with independent travel training, helping a young person develop the confidence and life skills needed to travel safely and independently using public transport.

Your Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant & Travel Trainer, you will:

  • Support a KS5 learner throughout the school day, promoting engagement, independence, and confidence.
  • Deliver one-to-one support tailored to the student's individual learning and development needs.
  • Provide travel training before school or after school, teaching the learner how to safely and confidently use public transport.
  • Act as a guide and mentor, supporting the student to plan journeys, understand timetables, identify safe routes, and develop awareness of road and personal safety.
  • Gradually encourage greater independence while monitoring progress and adapting support where required.
  • Work closely with school staff, parents, and other professionals to ensure consistent support and positive outcomes.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with young people with Special Educational Needs is desirable but not essential.
  • A patient, calm, and encouraging approach.
  • Confidence using public transport and teaching practical life skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A commitment to promoting independence and preparing young people for adulthood.
  • A full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential.
