Autism SEN Teaching Assistant

Leeds | Full-Time | Temp to Permanent | September 2026

NextGen Teachers are recruiting a patient and enthusiastic Autism SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Leeds from September.

This is a full-time, temporary-to-permanent opportunity supporting children and young people with Autism (ASC) who may also have communication, sensory and social-emotional needs.

The Role

You will work closely with teachers and the wider SEN team to help pupils feel safe, engaged and confident in their learning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Supporting pupils with Autism/ASC
  • Helping pupils with communication and social interaction
  • Supporting sensory and emotional regulation
  • Using visual timetables, routines and individualised strategies
  • Encouraging independence and positive engagement with learning
  • Supporting pupils during lessons and throughout the school day

Who We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from candidates who:

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with Autism
  • Are calm, patient, resilient and reliable
  • Understand that behaviour can be a form of communication
  • Can build positive and consistent relationships with pupils
  • Can commit to full-time work from September
  • Are looking for a long-term career within SEN education

Experience could come from a school, SEN provision, support work, care or youth-work setting.
