About the Role

NextGen Teachers are delighted to be supporting a welcoming and inclusive school in Leeds, who are looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team, with a particular focus on supporting children within EYFS.

This role would suit someone with experience working with Early Years-aged children, who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them develop their communication, independence and learning skills.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, working closely with teachers and other professionals to meet individual needs. The role may also involve supporting pupils with personal care, toileting, hygiene and other intimate care needs, so candidates must be comfortable with this aspect of the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Support EYFS-aged pupils with SEND to access learning safely and confidently.

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support under the guidance of the class teacher.

• Support children's communication, social development, independence and early learning.

• Help implement EHCPs, individual support plans and care plans.

• Support positive behaviour and emotional regulation.

• Assist with personal care, toileting, hygiene and welfare needs where required.

• Support pupils with health, physical and therapy needs where appropriate.

• Monitor and report on pupil progress, wellbeing and development.

• Create a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment.

• Work collaboratively with teachers, families and other professionals.

• Support pupils during lessons, break times and school activities.

• Follow safeguarding, health and safety and school policies.

Requirements

• Previous experience working with EYFS / Early Years-aged children is essential.

• Experience supporting children with SEN or additional needs is essential.

• Previous experience providing personal care is desirable, or you must be comfortable undertaking personal care when required.

• A genuine passion for helping children reach their full potential.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• A patient, nurturing and supportive approach.

• Sound knowledge of safeguarding and related procedures.

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

• Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science.

• Level 2/3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) - desirable.

• Team Teach trained - desirable.

• Moving and Handling trained - desirable.
