Start Date: 7th September 2026
Contract: Full-Time

NextGen Teachers are recruiting a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND provision based in the Andover area, starting on 7th September 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a newly established specialist setting that provides a calm, nurturing and highly personalised learning environment for children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism (ASD) and other complex needs.

The provision supports pupils across a broad age range and operates with very small class sizes, allowing staff to build strong, trusting relationships and provide individualised support. The successful Teaching Assistant will work closely with an individual pupil on a 1:1 basis, helping them to access learning, regulate their emotions, develop confidence and make positive progress both academically and socially.

The Role

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support to a pupil with additional needs throughout the school day
  • Support the pupil with their academic, social and emotional development
  • Help the pupil access lessons and engage positively with learning
  • Use a calm, patient and nurturing approach to support emotional regulation
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship while maintaining clear professional boundaries
  • Implement strategies outlined within the pupil's EHCP and individual support plans
  • Support communication, independence and life skills
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals
  • Help create a safe, predictable and supportive learning environment
  • Respond positively to behaviours that may communicate unmet needs or emotional distress
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and contribute to the wider school community

The Ideal Candidate

We would love to hear from candidates who:

  • Have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SEMH, Autism or complex needs
  • Have experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, SEN Support Worker or in a similar role
  • Are patient, resilient, compassionate and able to remain calm in challenging situations
  • Understand the importance of building positive relationships with pupils
  • Are confident supporting children with emotional regulation and barriers to learning
  • Are comfortable working within a specialist SEND environment
  • Can commit to a full-time position from 7th September 2026
  • Have a genuine passion for helping children and young people achieve positive outcomes

Experience of trauma-informed, relational or nurture-based approaches would be particularly beneficial.

Why Apply?
