This is an exciting opportunity to lead Physics within a high-performing and ambitious secondary setting.
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Subject Leader of Physics who can inspire students, lead a successful department, and drive continued excellence in teaching and learning across KS3-KS5.
About the Role
You will lead a well-established Physics department with a strong track record of academic success at GCSE and A-level. Physics is a popular subject, taught as a standalone discipline, with a growing uptake at post-16.
The department is committed to delivering an engaging, rigorous, and enriching curriculum. You will play a key role in shaping its future development, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and student outcomes.

Responsibilities
In addition to your teaching responsibilities, you will:
- Lead and manage the Physics department, including staff, resources, and curriculum delivery
- Set a clear vision for excellence in teaching and learning within the subject area
- Monitor and evaluate student progress and outcomes, implementing strategies for improvement
- Develop and refine schemes of work and curriculum content across KS3-KS5
- Support, coach, and develop colleagues within the department
- Promote high standards of behaviour, engagement, and achievement
- Use data effectively to inform teaching and departmental strategy
- Contribute to whole-school improvement priorities and initiatives
- Lead or support extracurricular opportunities to enrich the Physics curriculum
You will be expected to model outstanding classroom practice and act as a role model for both staff and students.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a candidate who:
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree in Physics or a related subject
- Has strong subject knowledge up to A-level
- Is an outstanding classroom practitioner with the ability to inspire and motivate students
- Has experience (or the potential) to lead and manage a team effectively
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of curriculum development and pedagogy
- Has the ability to analyse performance data and drive improvement
- Builds positive relationships and contributes to a collaborative culture
- Is reflective, ambitious, and committed to professional development
- Has a clear commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
