NextGen Teachers is delighted to be recruiting a dedicated SEN & SEMH Teaching Assistant to join the outstanding team at a Specialist School in Barnsley.

This is a full-time / permanent contract starting ideally as soon as possible and will be working term-time only fro Monday - Friday (8:30am - 3:30pm).

About the Role

As a SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with experienced teachers and support staff to provide individualised support to pupils with additional needs, including autism, ADHD, and SEMH challenges.

You will:

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to help them feel safe and supported

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support in and outside the classroom

  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and self-confidence

  • Support teachers in delivering creative and engaging lessons

  • Promote inclusion, independence, and a love of learning

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in working with children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH (school, youth work, or care background welcome)

  • Calm, patient, and resilient with a genuine desire to help young people succeed

  • A team player with excellent communication and empathy skills

  • Ideally qualified to Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent)

  • Committed to a full-time, permanent role in a nurturing SEN environment

  • In possession of (or willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS certificate
