Are you a passionate teacher who specialises in SEMH? We have the perfect role for you.
NextGen Teachers are delighted to be partnering with a highly respected specialist SEMH school in Huddersfield, dedicated to transforming the lives of young people through compassion, structure, and high-quality teaching.
We are seeking a skilled, resilient, and nurturing SEMH Teacher to lead a small class of Year 6 and Year 7 pupils, who are currently working between Year 2 and Year 6 levels. This is an exceptional opportunity to make a real difference in a setting where relationships, consistency, and creativity are at the heart of learning.
At this forward-thinking school, education is about far more than academic progress - it's about re-engaging learners, building trust, and helping every young person to believe in themselves again. The curriculum is adapted, engaging, and hands-on, designed to promote confidence, communication, and emotional regulation.
As class teacher, you'll:
- Deliver personalised, purposeful lessons that meet pupils where they are and help them move forward at their own pace.
- Foster a safe, nurturing, and structured classroom environment where positive relationships and mutual respect come first.
- Work closely with a dedicated team of support staff, behaviour mentors, and pastoral professionals to ensure every learner feels valued, understood, and supported.
- Use your creativity, empathy, and professional insight to inspire progress - academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver highly personalised learning programmes, aligned with the individual targets outlined in each learner's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Create and sustain a positive, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment where every pupil feels safe, valued, and motivated to learn.
- Track and celebrate progress through observations, pupil work, photos, and ongoing communication with parents and carers, updating electronic assessment systems regularly.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues, external agencies, and families to ensure consistent, joined-up support for every learner.
- Encourage emotional growth and resilience, supporting pupils to recognise, express, and manage their emotions through positive regulation strategies and restorative practice.
- Incorporate sensory and therapeutic approaches - such as sensory circuits and movement breaks - to promote engagement, focus, and wellbeing.
- Provide personal and physical support where needed, including assisting pupils with mobility, positional changes, or care routines in a dignified and respectful way.
- Contribute to wider school life by participating in enrichment and extracurricular activities that enhance pupils' wellbeing, confidence, and social development.
Requirements:
- Qualified Teaching Status (QTS).
- Experience working with children and young people who have SEMH needs
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one)
- Having a calm, caring attitude towards children and their learning and development
- Team Teach trained (or willingness to complete the training)
- Passion for making a difference
- Excellent communication skills
- Thorough knowledge of safeguarding and the processes involved in this
If you meet the above requirements and are eager to contribute to the safe, happy environment that supports the learning of every student, please email your CV to charlotte@nextgenteachers.co.uk, or apply directly to this advert.
