About the Role

NextGen Teachers are recruiting an exceptional SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school community in Barnsley.

This is a unique opportunity to make a genuine impact on the lives of children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will play a vital role in helping students feel safe, understood, and empowered to achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, compassionate support to pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Assist with individual learning plans, classroom activities, and daily routines.

  • Model positive behaviour and maintain clear, stable boundaries.

  • Build trusting relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.

  • Promote a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment where every child feels valued.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH, or in a care setting.

  • You must have classroom experience
  • Strong understanding of positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies.

  • Hold a valid driving license and ideally a car
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards this qualification.

  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to working with children.

Salary & Benefits

  • £22,000-£24,000 per year, depending on experience.
