Exciting Opportunity: SEMH Support Role - Huddersfield
NextGen Teachers are thrilled to present an outstanding opportunity at a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school in Huddersfield.
This forward-thinking school is celebrated for its inclusive, nurturing ethos, dedicated staff team, and exceptional commitment to professional development. Above all, it's a place where every young person is seen, supported, and empowered to achieve their full potential.
We're looking for a compassionate, resilient, and proactive professional with a genuine passion for supporting children and young people aged 7 to 16 with complex SEMH needs.
In this highly rewarding role, you'll:
- Build positive, trusting relationships with learners.
- Deliver tailored 1:1 and small-group interventions that promote emotional regulation, engagement, and personal growth.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to foster a safe, structured, and inspiring learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide targeted support to a designated group of students with complex SEMH needs, promoting engagement, wellbeing, and progress.
- Facilitate smooth and positive transitions between lessons and activities, ensuring each day follows a predictable, supportive routine.
- Act as a trusted adult and 'secure base' - helping pupils regulate emotions, modelling calm and consistent behaviour, and maintaining clear, empathetic boundaries.
- Build strong, positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families to support holistic development and wellbeing.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school through teamwork, reflection, and proactive support of school values and routines.
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people with additional or complex needs.
- A strong understanding of positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build genuine, respectful relationships.
- Ability to engage, motivate, and inspire learners through creative and flexible approaches.
- Level 3 qualification (or equivalent), or a willingness to work towards this.
- Sound knowledge of safeguarding practices and accurate record-keeping.
- Access to your own vehicle and a valid Enhanced DBS (on the Update Service or willingness to obtain).
- Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English, Maths, and Science.
If you meet the above requirements and are eager to contribute to the safe, happy environment that supports the learning of every student, please email your CV to charlotte@nextgenteachers.co.uk, or apply directly to this advert.
