Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only - Temp to Perm
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm

Salary: £19,500 - £20,500 (depending on experience)
NextGen Teachers are seeking a passionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant (temp-to-perm) to join an incredible SEN school in Wakefield. This full-time, term-time role involves supporting students aged 11-19 with severe, complex, and profound Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide personalised support to students with severe, complex, and profound learning difficulties, including autism, sensory needs, and physical or medical needs.
- Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions to promote engagement, communication, and learning progress across a highly adapted curriculum.
- Support the development of key life skills, independence, and social interaction in line with individual education or care plans.
- Assist with structured learning activities while promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and consistency in daily routines.
- Collaborate closely with teaching staff and multidisciplinary teams to monitor progress and support each student's individual development.
- Contribute to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment that allows all students to thrive.
What we're looking for:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with severe and complex Special Educational Needs (SEN) is essential.
- Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, or in a care or educational setting is highly desirable.
- Understanding of a wide range of SEN, including autism (ASD), sensory needs, severe learning difficulties (SLD), SEMH, and behavioural challenges.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
- A calm, patient, and compassionate approach to supporting children with additional needs.
- Proactive, adaptable, and committed to promoting inclusion, independence, and well-being.
