NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for a full-time Teaching Assistant on a temporary to permanent basis to work at A partnership SEN and SEMH school in Huddersfield. This is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist setting and make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.

About the School

This school is a specialist provision supporting pupils aged 5-18 with Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school provides a safe, supportive and therapeutic learning environment where pupils are encouraged to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

The setting offers small class sizes, typically with a teacher and teaching assistant supporting groups of around 4-6 pupils, allowing for highly personalised support and strong relationships.

The school takes a holistic approach to education, delivering bespoke learning opportunities and individual care tailored to each pupil's needs. Facilities include well-resourced classrooms, creative learning spaces and outdoor areas designed to enrich learning experiences.

Staff work collaboratively in a supportive environment focused on helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop independence and confidence for the future.

The Role

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs and additional learning difficulties
  • Work on a 1:1 basis and with small groups
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and tailored learning activities
  • Help promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Support students both inside and outside the classroom

  • A compassionate, resilient and patient individual
  • Experience working with children or young people (education, care or youth work)
  • An interest in supporting pupils with SEMH and additional needs
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting learning
