SEN Teaching Assistant
SEN Teaching Assistant - Specialist School | Keighley
NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Keighley, supporting children aged 2-11 years with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The position is initially offered on a supply/temporary basis, with the potential to develop into a long-term opportunity for the right candidate.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to provide tailored support to pupils, helping them to access learning and develop both academically and personally.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils aged 2-11 with SEN and SEMH needs
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support where required
- Supporting pupils with their learning, communication and social development
- Helping to manage behaviour in a calm, positive and consistent manner
- Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Supporting classroom activities and individual learning plans
- Working collaboratively with teachers and other professionals
- Creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic, patient and resilient Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
School experience is essential for this role. Experience working with SEN and/or SEMH pupils would be highly desirable.
The successful candidate will be:
- Experienced working within a school or educational setting
- Patient, nurturing and approachable
- Confident supporting children with additional needs
- Calm and consistent when managing challenging behaviour
- Able to build strong relationships with pupils
- Reliable, professional and adaptable
- A strong team player who is willing to support wherever needed
The Opportunity
This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain further experience within a specialist educational setting. The position will initially be supply/temporary, with the possibility of becoming a long-term placement for the right person.
Requirements
- Previous school experience is essential
- Experience supporting children with SEN/SEMH is highly desirable
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
- Ability to provide two professional references covering the last 24 months
- Successful completion of all required recruitment and safeguarding checks
