About the Role
NextGen Teachers are delighted to be supporting a specialist SEN school in Huddersfield that is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join their team.
The school provides a safe, supportive and nurturing environment for pupils aged 7-18, supporting children and young people with SEMH and additional needs.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting pupils who may have experienced challenges in their education and who wants to make a genuine difference to their learning, confidence and development.
You will work closely with the classroom teacher, supporting either individual pupils or small groups of up to six learners and helping to create a positive environment where pupils feel safe, supported and motivated to learn.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated support to one pupil or a small group of up to six pupils.
- Support the classroom teacher during lessons and learning activities.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Encourage engagement, interaction and positive learning outcomes.
- Support pupils with their academic, social and emotional development.
- Assist with lesson planning, classroom preparation and resources.
- Set work and mark pupils' work where appropriate.
- Monitor and report on pupil progress, behaviour and concerns.
- Liaise with teaching staff and other professionals to ensure pupils' individual needs are met.
- Supervise pupils during non-classroom activities, including break and lunch times.
- Support pupils during extracurricular activities and school trips.
- Take responsibility for an additional area of school life, such as Food Hygiene, Forest School, lunchtimes or school-based activities.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar educational support role.
- Experience working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting.
- Experience and confidence supporting behaviour and using positive behaviour management techniques.
- A strong basic education, ideally to A-Level standard.
- Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics.
- Sound IT skills.
- A patient, resilient and nurturing approach.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may present with challenging behaviour or additional needs.
- Willingness to take on additional responsibilities within the school.
- Commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn.
- Enhanced DBS check required prior to commencing work.
