SEMH Support Assistant
SEMH Support Assistant - Full-Time / Contract
Location: Halifax
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £18,500 - £19,500 (dependent on experience and qualifications)

NextGen Teachers is proud to partner with a Specialist school in Halifax to recruit a passionate SEMH & Autism Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated and supportive team.
This role is starting ASAP after the half-term break and will be for a Fixed-Term contract until August 2026. The working hours are Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 3:30pm and candidates must be available to start as soon as possible with no notice period.
About the Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in helping pupils with SEMH and ASC thrive both academically and personally.
You'll work closely with teachers and therapists to provide targeted support, build trust with students, and help them overcome barriers to learning.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing one-to-one and small group support tailored to each pupil's needs
Supporting emotional regulation, communication, and social skills development
Assisting in delivering engaging, structured, and nurturing lessons
Promoting positive behaviour through understanding, consistency, and encouragement
Contributing to a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
Experienced in working with children or young people with SEMH or autism (school or care background welcome)
Calm, empathetic, and patient - with a genuine passion for helping others succeed
A confident communicator who can build strong, trusting relationships
Ideally qualified to Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent)
Committed to a full-time, permanent role in a specialist SEN environment
In possession of (or willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS certificate
