SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Huddersfield

Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm

Start Date: September

Salary: £19500 - £21500 per annum (depending on experience)

We're looking for a resilient, caring and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 5-18 with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, anxiety and communication and learning needs. You'll work in a small, supportive setting where building trust, managing behaviour and helping young people develop confidence and independence are at the heart of the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils aged 5-18 with SEMH and additional needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and provide consistent emotional support.
  • Support pupils with Autism, ADHD, anxiety, communication and learning needs.
  • Help manage challenging behaviour using calm, positive and consistent strategies.
  • Support learning, confidence and independence while working closely with teachers and wider staff.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH and additional needs.
  • A calm, patient and compassionate approach with strong behaviour management skills.
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, anxiety or communication needs is desirable.
  • Confident building positive relationships with pupils and helping them develop trust and independence.
  • Reliable, resilient and adaptable, with a genuine passion for supporting young people to succeed.
