Contract: Part time / Temporary to permanent (term time only). Monday to Friday (8:30-12:00)

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated SEMH Specialist to join their skilled team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to flourish both inside and outside the classroom.

In this role, you'll work closely with an Early Years aged child, supporting them to:

  • Build positive communication strategies.
  • Develop emotional regulation and resilience.
  • Strengthen emotional literacy.
  • Grow in confidence and thrive socially and academically.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support in communication, social interaction, sensory regulation, and behaviour.
  • Implement specialist strategies such as personalised timetables, transition support, emotion coaching, and structured movement/sensory breaks.
  • Adapt classroom activities to make learning accessible, engaging, and meaningful.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions to boost curriculum engagement.
  • Encourage positive play, friendships, and peer relationships.
  • Work in partnership with teachers, therapists, and parents/carers to provide consistent, holistic support.
  • Contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and strong positive behaviour management skills.
  • A genuine passion for helping children achieve their potential.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices and the process in recording concerns.
  • Enhanced DBS (on the update service, or willingness to apply).
  • Minimum Grade C/4 in GCSE English, Maths, and Science.
  • Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).
