Primary Teaching Assistant (KS1 & SEND)
Location: Wakefield (WF2)
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term
Start Date: September 2026
Pay: From £92.60 per day
Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with additional needs?
We are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming primary school in Wakefield seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. The school is looking to trial suitable candidates over the coming weeks, making this a fantastic opportunity to secure a long-term role ahead of the new academic year.
This varied role will involve supporting within a Year 1 classroom, alongside providing targeted 1:1 support for pupils with Autism and complex additional needs.
The Role
- Support teaching and learning within a Year 1 classroom
- Assist with the delivery of Phonics and early learning activities
- Provide 1:1 support for an Autistic pupil in Year 3 during morning sessions (Monday-Wednesday)
- Support a Year 1 pupil with highly complex needs on Thursdays and Fridays
- Work with a non-verbal Autistic pupil within the school's specialist provision
- Implement consistent routines and strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement
- Promote independence, communication, and positive learning experiences
About You
- Previous experience supporting pupils within a Primary or KS1 setting
- Strong knowledge of Phonics and early years learning
- Experience working with children with Autism and complex SEND needs
- Confident supporting non-verbal pupils and managing dysregulation positively
- Patient, resilient, and able to build strong relationships with pupils
- A proactive and nurturing approach to supporting children's development
