NextGen Teachers are delighted to be recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Year 1 & SEN Teaching Assistant to join the exceptional team at a great primary school in Wakefield from September 2026.

This is a unique and rewarding full-time opportunity that combines classroom support with specialist SEN provision, making it ideal for someone who is passionate about helping every child reach their full potential.

The Role

The successful candidate will work:

  • 3.5-4 days per week as a Class Teaching Assistant in Year 1, supporting teaching and learning across the classroom and helping to create an engaging and inclusive environment.
  • 1-2 days per week providing dedicated support for a Year 2 pupil with Autism and complex additional needs, including supporting positive behaviour strategies and personalised learning.

The pupil is primarily based within the school's in-house resourced provision, where you will work closely with experienced staff to deliver tailored interventions and promote independence, communication and wellbeing.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with primary-aged children, ideally within Key Stage 1.
  • Has knowledge or experience of supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and complex learning or behavioural needs.
  • Is patient, resilient and able to build positive, trusting relationships with children.
  • Can work collaboratively as part of a highly supportive staff team.
  • Is proactive, flexible and committed to providing the very best outcomes for every child.
  • Shares the school's values of inclusion, high expectations and nurturing every learner.
