Location: Huddersfield, HD8
Contract: Temporary to permanent (term time only). Monday to Friday (8:30-3:30)
Start date: ASAP
Salary: £22,604 - £23,738 per year (dependant on experience)
About the Role
NextGen Teachers are delighted to present an exciting opportunity at a Specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) School in Huddersfield. We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual who is passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children with complex SEMH needs. In this role, you'll go beyond classroom support by building trusting relationships, delivering tailored 1:1 and small-group interventions, and working closely with colleagues to create a nurturing, inclusive, and empowering environment where every student can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and organise the classroom environment to ensure lessons run smoothly
- Provide in-class support to help pupils engage and achieve their best
- Offer targeted assistance to pupils who require additional support
- Maintain and update accurate records of pupil progress and development
- Take the lead in delivering specific learning activities and sessions
- Support the implementation of structured learning routines at school, in the community, and within the family home
- Apply effective strategies and interventions to help students manage and regulate challenging behaviours
Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs (SEN), specifically SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs
- Patience, empathy, and strong positive behaviour management skills
- A genuine passion for helping children reach their potential
- Understanding of safeguarding practices and accurate record-keeping procedures
- Access to own vehicle
- Enhanced DBS (on the Update Service or willingness to apply)
- Minimum Grade C/4 in GCSE English, Maths, and Science
