Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Location: Bradford
Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday (8:30am - 3:30pm), term-time only. Flexible opportunities available - ranging from day-to-day supply to long-term placements.
Start Date: Immediate start available.
Salary: £22,000 - £25,000 per annum (dependent on experience).

NextGen Teachers are delighted to be recruiting HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) for a variety of roles across Bradford. We partner with a wide network of Primary, Secondary and SEN schools throughout West Yorkshire, offering both short-term and long-term opportunities for the right candidates.

The role of HLTA involves being able to cover a variety of classes throughout the day/week. The right candidate will be adaptable, compassionate and dedicated to shaping the future generation. HLTAs require a great understanding of a variety of subjects, and have experience supporting children with SEN (Special Educational Needs). Your ability to contribute to the continuity of students' education is paramount to their social, emotional and educational progress.

About the Role

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons to whole classes in the teacher's absence (including covering PPA time).
  • Lead small group or 1:1 interventions to support learning, progress, and personal development.
  • Assist in planning and preparing learning activities under the guidance of a teacher.
  • Adapt resources and strategies to meet the needs of pupils, including those with SEN, EAL, or additional barriers to learning.
  • Provide targeted support for pupils with a variety of needs, including academic, behavioural, and social-emotional.
  • Support in assessing pupil progress and feeding back to the class teacher.
  • Contribute to creating an inclusive, safe, and engaging learning environment.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents to support children's development.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Proven experience working with children in a school or similar educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge and practical understanding of a wide range of SEN needs.
  • A genuine passion for helping children achieve their full potential.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Minimum GCSE grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English, Maths, and Science.
  • A Level 4 HLTA qualification or an education-related degree (or working towards one).
