Autism Support Worker
Trainee Teaching Assistant
East Grinstead - Driver essential due to location
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45am-5:00pm (4.30 finish on a Friday) Term time only
If you have ever wanted to work with young people or are already working within education, but are looking to specialise in a SEND environment, this is a fabulous team to join a team where training and support are plentiful. NextGen Teachers are working with a unique, "OUTSTANDING" setting who are looking to recruit a teaching assistant to work their Autistic pupils on a one-to-one basis.
What you'll be doing:
- Assisting with the development and delivery of individualised learning programmes as a teaching assistant
- Contributing to the preparation and organisation of teaching materials
- Collecting and recording learning data and maintaining progress evidence
- Working collaboratively within a classroom team as a TA, using behaviourally based instruction to support the pupils learning journey
- Delivering daily 1:1 teaching sessions under the guidance of experienced teaching staff
- Supporting extra-curricular and therapeutic activities, including swimming, horse riding, running, and trampolining supporting pupils with ASD and Autism Diagnosis
- Providing personal care to pupils when required
You don't need experience in a teaching assistant role previously, but what you will need is:
- To be proactive, caring, and enthusiastic about supporting children as a TA, Support Worker and Learning Support Assistant
- To have excellent communication skills and a collaborative team spirit
- Be comfortable with providing personal care and participating in physical activities with students with special educational needs
- A keen interest in developing a career working with children and young adults with SEND
There is lots of scope for development and progression with this school with regular performance reviews and feedback sessions.
There's consistent mentoring support as a TA and you will also gain great insight and learn techniques from trained therapists in the classroom and be able to use these in your daily practice supporting Autism.
This is an excellent stepping stone into education if you come for a care background or have recently graduated in psychology or comparable degree subject.
