16+ SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Leeds
Contract: Temporary to Permanent (Term-Time Only)
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
Pay: £90-£95 per day (dependent on experience)

NextGen Teachers is proud to be working with an exceptional specialist SEN school in Leeds, supporting post-16 learners with EHCPs as they prepare for adult life. These learners follow a bespoke pathway focused on independence, confidence, and real-world skills, blending academic learning with vocational training and community-based experiences.

As a Post 16 Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in helping young people develop the skills they need for life beyond education - from communication and self-regulation to practical independence and community engagement.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support post-16 learners with complex SEN, including autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties

  • Deliver engaging semi-formal learning and life skills sessions such as Maths for Life and practical independence tasks

  • Support and work towards EHCP outcomes, developing communication, social, and emotional skills

  • Accompany and support learners during community-based and offsite activities

  • Provide sensory support, emotional regulation strategies, and positive behaviour management

  • Work within a highly supportive, team-teaching environment using visual supports, project-based learning, and Lego Therapy

What We're Looking For

  • Experience supporting learners with complex SEN, including personal care

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach with strong behaviour management skills

  • Confidence supporting offsite and community-based learning

  • A good understanding of safeguarding and accurate record-keeping

  • Team Teach trained (or willing to complete training)

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)

  • Minimum Grade C/4 in GCSE English, Maths, and Science
