1:1 Teaching Assistant

1:1 Teaching Assistant - Year 5 (SEND & EAL Support)

• Location: LS6, Leeds
• Start Date: ASAP, Temp - Perm contract

NextGen Teachers are working in partnership with a welcoming primary school in the LS6 area of Leeds to recruit a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity to support a Year 5 pupil who has Down syndrome and is new to English.

The Role:

You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to provide tailored 1:1 support that enables this pupil to feel safe, included, and engaged in their learning.

About the Pupil:

• Newly arrived in the UK and currently developing English language skills
• Has a diagnosis of Down syndrome and requires additional support with communication, emotional regulation, and classroom routines

We're Looking for Someone Who:

• Has experience working with children with SEND, particularly Down syndrome (desirable but not essential)
• Is patient, caring, and proactive in supporting learning and emotional wellbeing
• Can adapt activities and communication styles to meet individual needs
• Ideally has experience supporting children with EAL (English as an Additional Language)
• Is committed to inclusion and passionate about making a difference

Requirements:

• Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
• Right to work in the UK
• Relevant experience working with children in a school or care setting
• Available to work full-time, Monday to Friday, during term time
• Two professional references
