A specialist SEN school in East Grinstead is looking to recruit a Trainee SEN Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant to join their friendly and supportive team.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring Teaching Assistants, or candidates with experience in care, support work, healthcare, youth work or coaching who are looking to build a long-term career in specialist education.
No previous school experience is required. Full training, ongoing mentoring and excellent career progression are provided.
Please note: Due to the school's rural location, applicants will need a full UK driving licence and access to their own transport.
The Role
You'll work alongside experienced teachers, therapists and SEN professionals, supporting children with:
- Autism (ASC/ASD)
- PMLD and SLD
- Communication and sensory needs
- Complex learning and physical needs
Your role will include:
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
- Encouraging confidence, communication and independence
- Assisting with learning activities and sensory programmes
- Supporting emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour
- Providing personal care where required
- Working closely with teachers, therapists and families
Who We're Looking For
This role is ideal for:
- Psychology, Sociology, Education or Childhood Studies graduates
- Aspiring SEN Teaching Assistants or Learning Support Assistants
- Future teachers, Educational Psychologists or Therapists
- Support Workers, Care Assistants, Healthcare Assistants, Youth Workers or Sports Coaches
- Anyone passionate about supporting children with SEND
