SEN Teaching Assistant - Complex Needs
Location: Leeds
Contract: Monday to Friday 8:30am-3:30pm
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: £90-£95 per day (dependent on experience)
About the Role
NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) in a welcoming and supportive school in Leeds.
This role involves working closely with children who have complex needs, including significant learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and medical needs. Many pupils require a high level of individualised support to access learning and daily activities.
You will play a vital role in delivering tailored support, helping pupils to engage with sensory-based learning, develop communication skills, and build independence wherever possible. Due to the nature of the needs within the setting, this role will include supporting with personal care, as well as assisting with moving and handling in line with training and school policies. Some pupils may also require support with feeding, positioning, and medical routines throughout the school day.
This is a full-time, long-term opportunity ideal for individuals with experience supporting children with PMLD or complex medical needs. A calm, patient, and nurturing approach is essential, alongside a willingness to support pupils with both their educational and personal care requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with complex needs
Support children with EHCPs and personalised learning plans
Assist with communication strategies (e.g. PECS, visual timetables, Makaton where applicable)
Help regulate behaviour and support emotional wellbeing
Adapt classroom activities to meet individual learning needs
Support with personal care where required
Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals
Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
Requirements
Experience supporting children with SEN, particularly complex needs
A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
