NextGen Teachers are actively recruiting for a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to join a well-established specialist SEN school in Wakefield (Pontefract area). This is a permanent opportunity within a supportive and highly experienced team, working with secondary-aged pupils (11-18 years).

About the Role:

In this role, you will support pupils aged 11-18 with:

  • Autism (ASC)

  • Communication and Interaction Needs

  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)

  • Complex learning needs

This is a hands-on role within a specialist provision.
Candidates must be confident supporting personal care and manual handling.

You will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, develop independence, and achieve their EHCP outcomes within a structured and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group SEN support across KS3 and KS4

  • Support pupils with PMLD and complex needs

  • Assist with personal care routines (where required)

  • Support teachers in delivering personalised and differentiated learning

  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Create a safe, engaging and inclusive classroom environment

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals

What We're Looking For:

  • Previous experience working in an SEN school or specialist setting (desirable)

  • Experience supporting Autism or PMLD (highly desirable)

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • A genuine passion for inclusive education

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (preferred but not essential)

  • A strong understanding of safeguarding
