Trainee SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN / SEND / ASD Support) - East Grinstead
Location: East Grinstead, West Sussex (Specialist SEN School)
Salary: £24,303 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday (term time only)
Start Date: Immediate / ASAP

This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring SEN Teaching Assistants, Support Workers, or graduates to gain hands-on experience in a specialist school setting. Full training is provided, making this role ideal for individuals looking to build a long-term career supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN / SEND).
The Role
As a Trainee SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASD/ASC), PMLD, SLD, and complex learning difficulties. You will work closely with experienced staff to help students access learning and develop key life skills in a structured and supportive environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing 1:1 support and small group support
- Supporting learning, communication, and behaviour development
- Assisting students with social skills, independence, and engagement
- Working with pupils with Autism (ASD), SEND, and complex needs
- Providing personal care and physical support where required
The Ideal Candidate
This role is perfect for candidates from education, care, or support work backgrounds, as well as graduates looking to enter the SEN sector.
You will be:
- Interested in SEN, SEND, Autism (ASD), or mental health support
- Experienced in care, support work, youth work, or working with children (preferred but not essential)
- Patient, resilient, and nurturing in your approach
- Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a team
- Willing to learn and develop through training and CPD
- A driver with access to a vehicle (essential)
